Beauty Essentials

BB Cream.jpg

Whenever I step into Target, I somehow manage to spend three times more than what I was intending to and it’s mainly on random beauty products that I didn’t even need in the first place. Seriously, I’ll go in for toothpaste and then all of a sudden I’ll be in the checkout line with nail polish, hair mousse, body spray, and an entirely new living room. Heck, I won’t even have toothpaste in my cart! I know there are girls out there who can relate to this phenomenon.

Over the years, I’ve come to rely on certain basics as part of my daily routine, which I also mix in with some higher end products. Don’t get me wrong, I still experiment from time to time, but here are a handful of items that I would deem as my essentials and the steps in which I use them:

1.) If there is one thing you take away from this post, it’s that BB cream pictured above. This is a definite must-have in your makeup bag! In my opinion, Maybelline has the best one. Not only does it provide you with 45 SPF protection, but it also smoothes out any blemishes you may have while providing the perfect tint before applying foundation.

2.) After applying BB cream, I personally like to top it off with a face mask. Ever since moving down to Arizona, I’ve been doing this more and more frequently out of pure necessity. As most of you know, this is a very hot and a very dry state and some added moisture helps to keep my face looking healthy. Plus, the bee venom gives an immediate lifting, tightening, and firming! Who doesn’t love that?

Face Primer.jpg

3.) Next up is face primer, a product I’ve been searching far and wide for. It wasn’t until a few months ago that I finally found the perfect one. Prior to discovering the Smashbox line, everything else just made my face oily. This particular one does the exact opposite. It provides a matte finish for my foundation and keeps it that way all day long!

Foundation.jpg

4.) I’ve tried all different kinds of foundations, but nothing compares to this one. Similar to face primer, liquid foundation just makes my face feel greasy. I prefer a soft, even finish and Neutrogena offers a skin clearing mineral powder that does just that while also clearing any imperfections that might be on the horizon.

5.) During the summer months, I drift towards coral everything, especially blush. This Target find has gotten me so many compliments because of its subtlety and natural shimmer. I just tap it onto the apple of my cheeks while smiling (I know it’s weird, but it really helps) and then I’m all set!

Bronzer.jpg

6.) I have fair skin, so if and when I get a “tan”, I need to have a bronzer that can accommodate it. This nifty one, made by Physician’s Formula, separates it into the four different seasons, making the blending process that much easier for me. It also comes with a wide-angled brush, so sometimes I get real adventurous and mix all four, dusting it over my just-blushed cheeks.

7.) If you wear eyeshadow and eyeliner, then you absolutely need an eyelid primer. However, you absolutely do not need to spend an arm and a leg on one. They all do the same exact thing: keep your eyes from looking like a hot mess after a full day of whatever it is you’re doing. Trust me when I say that this is a great buy, ladies!

Brow Gel.jpg

8.) There’s no question I have my dad’s eyebrows. It wasn’t until the end of high school that I started to actually embrace them, but they still require some heavy duty taming. I rely on clear eyebrow gel to keep mine in place and the mascara-like brush in this one makes it an effortless procedure.

Eye Shadow.jpg

9.) To this day, I’m still trying to master the art of contouring eyeshadow, hence the reason I put together this collection of four. However, I usually just stick to gold colors, which really help to make my light blue eyes pop.

10.) A beauty product I haven’t steered clear from for as long as I can remember is Covergirl’s eyeliner in “Espresso”. It’s just the right amount of dark without going all gothic on me. Not only that, but the crayon texture makes it foolproof for those individuals who might be adverse to touching their eyes aka yours truly.

Mascara.jpg

11.) The other day, I made the leap in getting colored mascara and I’m so glad that I did. It’s a dark, midnight blue that beautifully compliments my peachy cheeks and lips. You can really see it in the bright sunlight!

Lip Blush.jpg

12.) When I bought the colored mascara, I also bought some lip blush to go along with it. It provides a stain of color on my lips that lasts without needing to be reapplied over and over again, all while keeping my lips supple and hydrated.

13.) Finally, I swipe on some complimenting lipstick directly over my lip blush, giving me a fresh, sun-kissed look to top it all off!
