One Candle, Ten Ways

Vase 3

One of my closest friends growing up had the “it” house.

Forget the underground pool and trampoline she had out in the backyard. Sure, I guess her hot pink Barbie house and unlimited supply of movies were pretty neat, too. Oh, and her bunk bed? Yeah, that was awesome for group slumber parties, but the thing I remember most was the smell.

Every day after school, we’d hop off the bus and cut in through the garage. As soon as that door swung open, it hit me like a brick wall. Sometimes it was sugary and sweet, while other times it was crisp like fresh laundry. My absolute favorite was the gingerbread plugin, though. Warm and yummy goodness flooded out of that little cookie, reminding me of the holiday season even when it was the dead of summer. Long story short, I’m convinced this is where my obsession with candles stems from.

It never fails. As soon as I get home from work, the first thing I do is light one … eh, or five. It’s the look, it’s the sound, it’s the fragrance; it’s everything that I need to unwind after a long day at the office, so you can imagine my delight when I found all of those magical things combined into one.

Standard Wax, a local brand here in Phoenix, combines both art and science to produce high quality candles that double as unique decor for the home. After burning through one already, I thought I’d share with you all a ten-part series on how we’ve been using it around our place. First up is a vase!
