Last Friday, Andrew and I paid a visit to St. Francis, a restaurant in downtown Phoenix rumored to have the best happy hour around. Drink after drink, this local theory proved to be true. Don’t even get me started on the Moroccan meatballs, though. They were to die for! However, what hooked us most was their Santa Rosa cocktail, a crisp and refreshing beverage that, based upon the menu, appeared to be a seemingly easy one to make.
As soon as we packed up our leftovers, it was off to the nearest grocery store so we could stock up on ingredients. Once we got back to our apartment, the game was officially on. Could the two of us actually craft this on our own?
In the end, the result was over-the-top fantastic! This truly is the perfect summer sip, but I’ll let you all be the judge of that:
1 shot of vodka
1/2 shot of elderflower
2 leaves of thyme
1/2 a grapefruit
Splash of tonic
Handful of ice cubes
In a shaker, muddle 1 leaf of thyme and 2 to 3 slivers of grapefruit until slightly juiced. Add 1 shot of vodka and 1/2 shot of elderflower to the shaker, followed by a handful of ice cubes. Seal the lid tightly, shake well, and then pour over a glass of ice cubes. Spritz a splash of tonic into the glass, stir, and then add thyme and grapefruit wedge for garnish. Last, but certainly not least, enjoy!
