I love to shop.
This announcement must be shocking to you all, I know. If there’s even the smallest hint of a sale going on, I’m there. Grand opening of a boutique? Count me in. A different line being carried? Sold. Honestly, I can just walk past a store window and be equally as happy, but what truly takes the cake, or perhaps in this scenario I should say the new pair of shoes, is when I can shop while also giving back.
This past weekend, I was invited to cover the annual AZ Share That You Care event hosted by Pineapple Triangle over at The Icehouse in downtown Phoenix. Lovers of all things local, handmade, and one-of-a-kind, the ladies at Pineapple Triangle have one simple goal in mind: to bring together creatives while offering a portion of the proceeds to various different charities. How great is that?
Dozens of artists filled the main entryway of the open-air, exposed brick chapel, all of whom made my stops at their tables even more pleasant than the last. While I continued to make my rounds into each of the different rooms, something donned on me. I recognized most, if not all, of these little items. “Oh, there’s that one candle. I see it at so many coffee shops!” or “Wait, isn’t that the same necklace I saw at the flea market a few days ago?” What I never realized was the passion that went into them, as well as into our community.
Buying local has always been a deeply rooted value of mine, but understanding the importance of why solidified it even more so. These artists have put their entire heart and soul into their craft. For them, it’s not just about selling. It’s about connecting. They get to do what they love, day in and day out, and share it with thousands of people who nurture that mentality. They’re invested in everything that surrounds them and aren’t afraid to take risks. If anything, they run towards them. That is, and always will be, a trait I greatly admire. Plus, I get to walk away with the fruits of their labor. Don’t worry, I’ll be showing some of my favorites later on this week!
Getting the opportunity to finally meet these unique individuals is something I’ll never forget. Please know that it was an absolute pleasure. I’d also like to extend a big thank you to Pineapple Triangle for the very warm welcome and, more importantly, for making this event happen!
