Having a visitor is truly the best, but when that visitor happens to be your mom, it’s a hard one to beat.
Pressures that can often times come with hosting a guest simply vanished over these past few days. There was no schedule we had to follow, no reservation we were required to hold. It was just the two of us doing what we wanted to, when we wanted to.
The majority of our time was spent outdoors either hiking, shopping, dining, or all of the above. I mean, this was my mom’s one and only chance to defrost from the frigid Midwest cold and let’s just say she soaked it right up!
As I mentioned in my earlier post, we kicked off this girls weekend of ours with a massage and pedicure up at the breathtaking Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort and Spa, followed by a relaxing poolside lunch. The whole experience from start to finish was beyond wonderful, but it was so much more than just a couple of spa treatments. It was time spent with my mom; time I only get every few months. When I first moved down to Arizona, I never realized how precious these moments would be.
I said my goodbyes Sunday evening with a heavy heart, but woke up Monday morning feeling more refreshed than I have in a very long time. I finally got to see my best friend, my confidant, and the one person who knows me inside and out.
In the end, it was time spent with my mom, not a luxury hotel, that ended up being my sanctuary.
